Sudbury – Conservation Sudbury hosted its annual spring Flood Contingency Planning meeting yesterday at Tom Davies Square. The most recent information regarding snow pack and water levels was shared and preparedness for the upcoming spring runoff was discussed. The following agencies or organizations participated:

Each year at the Latornell Conservation Symposium individuals are recognized for their exceptional contributions to the conservation field. The Sudbury Source Protection Authority is happy to announce that Nels Conroy was one of four honoured with a Latornell Leadership Award at this year’s Symposium held last week in Alliston, ON.
December 12 2017 was a milestone day for Conservation Sudbury.
Conservation Sudbury celebrated its 60th anniversary. On December 12, 1957 the Junction Creek Conservation Authority was founded. Years later it merged with the Whitson Valley Conservation Authority and was renamed as the Nickel District Conservation Authority in 1973.
A new Conservation Authorities Act was also released yesterday. Bill 139, which includes a new Conservation Authorities Act, passed through the Ontario Legislature and received royal assent.
The modernizing of this 1946 legislation provides the foundation for conservation authorities to strengthen our watershed management role recognized as a key tool in helping Ontario to adapt to the impacts of issues such as rapid growth and climate change.
