The winners of the seventh annual Fast Flowing Water Contest were announced June 18 at Tom Davies Square.

Students in grades four through eight from six schools attended the awards ceremony where five lucky students received some nice hardware for their hard work.

The participants were tasked with creating warning posters to promote safety around fast-flowing water. Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas was on hand to speak in support of the campaign and her desire to take it province wide.

“We live in an area where there is a lot of water and unfortunately that has resulted in a number of drownings of children who are just like you,” Gélinas told the crowd. “This is a great program that was created right here in Sudbury and it's here to protect you and your friends, but I'd like to see this implemented across Ontario.
