NDCA Scholarship Awards

The Nickel District Conservation Authority (NDCA) celebrated 50 Years of Conservation and Watershed Management in the Sudbury area in December, 2007. In order to recognize this important milestone and extend the benefit, the NDCA General Board decided to establish scholarships at the three post-secondary facilities in Sudbury, namely, Laurentian University, College Boreal and Cambrian College.

Each year one student at each school selected by the designated program staff, will receive a $500.00 scholarship. The NDCA will provide these scholarships for four years, having started in 2007-2008, and will review this awards program at the end of the first four years. The NDCA is pleased to be able to assist students in their pursuit of higher education.

2012 - 2013 Scholarship Award Winners:

Congratulations to Bryn Wilgress of Laurentian University for winning the 2013 Nickel District Conservation Authority Scholarship!

Bryn Wilgress Scholarship Winner

"My name is Bryn Wilgress and I was raised in The Town of the Blue Mountains, Ontario.  I grew up spending a lot of time outside swimming, paddling, hiking and exploring the area. I had my first taste of paddling and hiking trips in high school with the Pursuits program. With Pursuits I experienced 10 days paddling in Killarney in addition to other trips in Ontario. I fell in love with the outdoors, packed up and moved to Sudbury in 2011 to attend Laurentian University as an Outdoor Adventure Leadership student. This past summer I spent a couple days paddling the French River with my class mates.  I have seen the beauty the area has to offer and I can see the environment changing. This year I have decided to further my education and minor in Environmental Studies. I am hoping this will extend my knowledge of environmental conservation. After completing my undergraduate degree I would like to pursue experiential education, so that one day I can provide future generations the same opportunities that allowed me to discover my passions."

Congratulations to Nicholas Schnurr of Cambrian College for winning the 2013 Nickel District Conservation Authority Scholarship!

Professor in the Civil Engineering Technology Program at Cambrian College.

"Growing up on a dairy farm, I've always been interested in creating solutions to existing problems and sustaining the surrounding environment. As a civil engineering graduate of Cambrian College, I am pursuing a career in road inspections and hope to become a project manager. In my spare time, I have many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, and fine carpentry. Furthermore, I enjoy playing a variety of musical instruments when visiting with my parents, seven siblings, and my wonderful fiance."
