The Easter Bunny “Goes Green” with Conservation Sudbury’s Earth Day
EGG-Stravaganza at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area!
The Easter Bunny will be hopping by early this year to hide some very special Easter Eggs at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area for our Earth Month EGG-Stravaganza! Families, come learn to use a GPS and follow the Easter Bunny’s trail to find your way to Easter treasure, while learning about how to help the environment!
When: Saturday, April 8th, 2017
Where: Lake Laurentian Conservation Area (2309 South Bay Rd. Sudbury),
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, and from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
Each session includes a half hour introduction to using a GPS. Families then hike the 1 km Chickadee Loop (approximately 1 hour), using your GPS to locate the Easter Bunny’s hidden Earth Day Eggs and learn about our local environment.
Evening Owl Prowls
Where: Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, Nature Chalet (2309 South Bay Rd.)
When: Wednesday March 1, and Wednesday March 8, 2017
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Spend the evening with Chris Blomme and Greg Blomme, from the Sudbury Ornithological Society, who, through a 30 minute presentation, will introduce you to the fascinating lives of our local species of owls. Then take a quiet night hike, where we will try to call in some wild owls.
Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day
When: Sunday, February 19th, 2017
Where: at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area Nature Chalet (2309 South Bay Rd.)
Time: 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.
That weekend is an Ontario Family Fishing weekend, so no fishing licenses are required (more information at ontariofamilyfishing.com).
Ice fishing activities will include learning proper catch and release techniques and making your own ice fishing rod from a stick.
Ice augers, gear and free bait will be available courtesy of our partners, the OFAH Tackleshare program, Ramakko’s and the Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association.
Winter Animal Tracking and Guided Snowshoe Hike
When: Sunday, February 5, 2017
Where: at the Nature Chalet (2309 South Bay Rd.)
Time: 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.
Participants will take a guided snowshoe tour with a nature interpreter and discover a winter forest full of life! Would you recognize the tracks of a snowshoe hare or a red fox?
Find out what kind of tracks can be seen at the Conservation Area! All ages welcome; snowshoes will be provided free of charge. The Nature Chalet will be open to warm up and to enjoy complimentary hot beverages.

Christmas Bird Count for Kids
Are you and your family always wondering what bird that is visiting your feeders? Come out and take part in Conservation Sudbury’s fourth annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids!
